It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Urban Jungle will be coming to an end on April 29th. While this may seem abrupt, it's a change that has been in the works for a while.
I started Urban Jungle eight years ago with the lofty goal of becoming a syndicated newspaper comic (this was back when that still seemed like a viable thing to do). A friend turned me on to Webcomics.com, and I started the process of crafting Urban Jungle into what it has become today.
In all the years since, Urban Jungle has never been a big money maker for me. But all along, I got to be a Cartoonist, to do what I loved, even if it wasn’t my day job. I got to hone my craft, make books and t-shirts, exhibit at comic cons, and get to know a lot of great creators and fans in the webcomics community. It’s been a great ride.
I stand proud of the work I’ve done. Looking back in the archives at the original comics, I’ve grown immensely in both my art skills and writing. But when all is said and done, I am simply ready for Urban Jungle to be complete, and to explore other ideas and projects that have been waiting in the wings. It’s time to hit the reset button and see what I want to create next.
Is this the end of the line for Zack, Gus, Phil, and the rest of the characters? After eight years it’s hard to imagine life without them. Stay tuned, because they just might turn back up in some form or another.
Thank you so much for reading and enjoying Urban Jungle for all these years, for going on this journey with Zack, Gus, Phil, Chuck and all the rest, and for all of your great comments and feedback.
